Our
Story

Get to Know Us
Queensland Tonga Rugby League was founded in 2023, our mission is to unite the Tongan community through our shared passion for Rugby League. We strive to create a sense of belonging among our players, celebrating our heritage with traditional Tongan hymns, dance, and the sipi tau.
Our Core Values
We take pride in our four foundational pillars (Kavei Koula):
-
Faka'apa'apa (Respect)
-
Tauhi Vā (Building Relationships)
-
Loto tõ (Humility)
-
Mamahi'i me'a (Loyalty)
We are also committed to the mental well-being of our players and have launched a mental health program that we intend to expand in the future.
As the official governing body for Tonga Rugby League in Queensland, we are aligned with our national team, Tonga Rugby XIII. This partnership allows us to compete in sanctioned events such as Junior QPICC and QPICC.

Our Logo

A reflection on our values
Our team felt it was crucial to design a logo that truly reflects our values and can be worn with pride.
-
The Crown symbolises our royal heritage, representing the only island nation with a reigning monarchy, something our Tongan people hold dear.
-
The Cross signifies our faith, emphasising the importance of placing God at the center of all our endeavours for our success.
-
The Four Golden Stripes represent "Kavei Koula", our four Tongan pillars:
-
Faka'apapa (Respect)
-
Loto to (Humility)
-
Tauhi vā (Cultivating Healthy Relationships)
-
Mamahi'i me'a (Loyalty)
-
These pillars form the foundation of our team’s core values.
Finally, the colours convey our identity: maroon represents Queensland, red symbolises Tonga, and gold embodies our golden pillars.
